This is a page that will contain all the items that don't fit anywhere else. Just little tidbits of ephemera. Things loosely related to the owl box, cartooning, or just loosely associated by way of the fact that I'm the common denominator.

John's Owlie platform

Meet my owl! This is one of those plastic owls that you can have loom over your garden to scare the pesky birds away. Or in our case, have it loom over the driveway so as to keep the birds from relieving themselves all over our cars. (We have a big flowering mulberry tree in the front yard, and it overhangs the driveway where we park.)

I wanted to name the owl Molly, but it didn't seem to fit. First of all, this is a great horned owl, not a barn owl. Secondly, Molly has a gentle, beautiful face, whereas this guy means business.

So meet Scarez. Scarez the Robo-Owl.

Actually, I would like to point out the platform Scarez is sitting on. I designed that so that I could reposition him anywhere along that eave (it's reversible, so I can go down the other side, too). This is because if you leave them in one place for too long, the birds get clued into the fact that Scarez is either fake or dead--either way, no threat to them. So they'll just ignore him (knowing these guys, they'll probably poop on him!). So this base allows me to reposition him from time to time. Keeps the little birdies on their toes.

Oh, and FYI--incredibly effective. Before getting Scarez, we could wash our cars and within a single day we are driving "Poopmobiles". Since Scarez, can go weeks without a single drop. Pretty impressive.

Here I was just having a little fun with Scarez. I spliced his DNA with some of my own.

Okay, now I just scared myself.
